We have received this request from one of our own, Big Lee W.

“My daughter Captain MRS. Hornsby US Army, asked me to file this request on her behalf to welcome home her husband, Captain Hornsby.
Patrick enlisted in 2004 as a 14S, (air defense artillery) responsible for operating the Avenger surface-to-air missile system. His first assignment was with the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell. He deployed to Iraq twice, in 2004 and 2008, where he earned his combat action badge. He served 5 years at Ft. Campbell, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 2009 he applied and was selected to become a Drill Sergeant. He trained thousands of Soldiers at Ft. Sill for 2 years as a DS. There he earned the Iron Drill Sergeant Award for top physical fitness in the brigade and also promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class.

In 2011 he applied and was selected for the green to gold scholarship. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at Cameron University in Lawton, OK. He finished #26 out of all 7000 cadets in the US and finished 1st in his regiment at advanced camp. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the medical service corps in 2013 and returned to the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell.

He was assigned to the Rakkasans where he served as a platoon leader, battalion medical officer, and battery executive officer. He was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant.

In 2015 he transitioned to Ft. Sam Houston where he initially served as a company executive officer. He then transferred to the nuclear health physics AOC and became an instructor in the AMEDD Center and School. Here he was promoted to Captain. In 2018 he was sent on his 3rd deployment to the Middle East, conducting missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, and Egypt.

He will also be completing his Master’s Degree in health physics and graduates in December 2019.

Awards and decorations include: bronze star, meritorious service medal, 11 ARCOMs, 4 AAMs, combat action badge, expert field medical badge, air assault wings, Iraqi Campaign Ribbon, Operation Enduring Freedom Medal, Operation Inherent Resolve Medal, overseas service ribbon, volunteer service ribbon, NATO medal, global war on terror ribbon, army service ribbon and 2 meritorious unit citations to his list of awards.
There is more but my daughter couldn’t think of it all. Patrick and Michele have two children. Michele has been coined already, but was never escorted. So even though this is for Patrick, it’s really a two-fer because Michele spent a year in Afghanistan too. Michele is now a US Army Physician’s assistant. “
