So Let’s get out and welcome home this hero.
Here is a bio on our hero:
Captain Gerard P. Kelly is a Corrections Counselor 2 at Graterford Prison in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He is assigned to the Capital Case Restricted Housing Unit and was a member of the Corrections Emergency Response Team. Captain Kelly was also the Head Coach of the Norristown Area High School Track Team.
Today he is assigned as to 333 MP Brigade, Farmingdale, New York.
Prior service includes enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1981 where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and as National Guardsman. He entered the United States Army in May 2000.
SFC Kelly was mobilized following 9/11/01 where he twice deployed with the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion serving as the Platoon Sergeant and Battalion NBC NCO in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, returning in 2003.
Prior to accepting his Direct Commission in September 2007, he served as an Army Reserve Career Counselor (ARCC) in the 94th Regional Readiness Command and volunteered for mobilization and served as the ARCC for Region Four. Prior to his ARCC assignment, he also held the assignment of Administration Specialist with the 6th Battalion of the 98th Division (IT). Upon completion of his Basic Officer Leadership School and Officer Basic Class for Military Police he cross-leveled to the 1357 Civil Affairs Company (Provisional) and attended Civil Affairs Officer Basic Course in Fort Bragg, NC.
In January 2009, LT Kelly was deployed to the Al Qaim District of Al Anbar Province in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Civil Affairs Team Leader until his return in June 2010. In August 2012 CPT Kelly was again cross-leveled and deployed to Afghanistan with the 333rd MP Brigade to Bagram, Afghanistan. He served as the Brigade Long Range Plans and Force Protection Officer for a 1,200 man Brigade until his return in July 2013.
Captain Kelly has completed the Primary Leadership Development Course, Airborne School, Basic Officer Course as a Military Policeman and Civil Affairs Officer, Movement Officer Course, Captain’s Career Course both Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Recruiting and Retention Non-commissioned Officer’s Course, Combat Lifesaver’s Course, Battalion Master’s Drivers Course, and Chemical Operations Specialist Course.
His awards include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters and “V” device, Army Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with 1 bronze star, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with 3 oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, The Iraq Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze .
