Bio by Jon’s Kate:
Jonathan just turned 22. He enlisted in the Army at the start of his Senior year of high School and upon graduation from Boyertown Area Senior High in 2007, he left for Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA. He completed his AIT at Fort Gordon and his permanent duty station is Fort Hood, TX. He is a Satellite Maintenance Engineer with B Company, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. On November 21st, just 3 years into his 5-year enlistment, Jon re-enlisted for another 6 years. Jon was in 7th grade when 9/11 happened–it was shortly after that that he began talking about a career in the Army. I can honestly say that his father and I fought him tooth and nail; but he never waivered. He knew what he wanted to do with his life despite receiving little support for his decision from his family. Don’t get me wrong…we’re all soo proud of him…but still to this day, I wish he had chosen another career that didn’t take him so far from home and wasn’t quite as dangerous. That’s the “mom” in me, I guess…
Jon just celebrated his 6 month anniversary with his wife, Robyn (they were married by a justice of the peace in May and they are planning a large, family wedding for July 2012). He has a 2-year old step-daughter, Emily. Jon has one sister – Miranda, who is 10. Miranda misses her brother very much–she calls him “her big boy” (Jon is 6 ft, 4 in tall!) and says he is her Hero. She loves to take him into school to show him off to her friends every time he comes home to visit.
