5/8/12 WELCOME HOME CHIEF STEVE JANCSO, U.S. NAVY FT. WASHINGTON, PA

We have been given the honor of accompanying Master Chief Steve Jancso on the final leg of his journey home from his long deployment to the war and absence from home.

This will be a DOUBLE celebration as he was only just promoted to Master Chief, and is awaiting orders assigning him to a Command Master Chief position. He has had quite a career (and he is a new father of twins, who he has only seen a short time)!

WWR was contacted by wife Diane, in Glenside, Pa. Diane writes:

My husband, Steve, (AWCM Steve Jancso) was born and raised in Blacksburg, Va. He is completing 22 years in the Navy this August (2012). He has been stationed locally at Willow Grove NAS for the majority of his career.

He has worked both as a mechanic and crew chief on C-12 and DC-9. He left VR-52 after assisting with the squadron’s transfer to NJ due to the closing of the base.  Recently (Feb. 2012) he was detached to Rhode Island for The Senior Enlisted Academy.  Then in May he went to ECRC in Norfolk, Va. From there, he went to South Carolina for combat training.

He was deployed to Bahrain as the Bahrain Afghan/Kyrgyzstan Desk Officer for Task-Force IA. While over in the Middle East he was selected and promoted to Command Senior Chief. Then on April 19th, 2012, he was selected as the only one Senior Chief to be promoted to Master Chief in his rate. He is currently waiting orders for a Command Master Chief position for his return.

He was been away from his family for a total of 14 months.  I am so proud of him & the sacrifices he has made… having to leave home after just having twin babies. He was been gone almost half of their lives. Thanks again for helping me give him the best home coming.

The Chief and family will be driving up from Virginia on TUESDAY, MAY 8. There is a school in Delaware where a class of children has been writing to him, so they will stop at that school before school is out (around 2pm?) This will give us a better chance to narrow down the arrival time as I will be in constant contact with Diane.

We will meet the family car as it exits route 309 in Fort Washington, and escort them (as a surprise) the rest of the way home to Glenside.

WHEN: MAY 8, TUESDAY, AT 4:15 PM
WHERE: RALLY POINT: 8OO BLOCK OF Fernhill Rd, Glenside, Pa. 19038

CO-RC: Lutz
