From our NY chapter director, Al Bruno:
I am pleased to announce the return from Afghanistan our, Poughkeepsie resident, SSGT. William Mansfield. Bill is an active member, of both the Warriors’Watch Riders and the PGR. He and his unit have been deployed for the past year in the sandbox. After arriving in Albany, The unit will break up into three bus groups. One to NYC, one to Syracuse, and one to Binghampton. In addition, many other soldiers ,such as Bill, will be picked up at Albany Airport by family or friends.
The homecoming is much like their deployment. They were scattered about Afghanstan in small 6 man teams. Last minute changes seem to have been the order of the day quite often too during the past year.
Their unit B/427 BSB 27th IBCT from Ft. Drum was a unit made up of soldiers from all across NY rather than from all one same unit. They were soldiers who were temporarily assigned to B/427 just for the one year deployment to Afghanistan. They will return to their regular units after they return home.
Their mission was a support mission. They travelled across Afghanistan, to different regions, with the purpose of closing FOBs as part of the drawdown of the war. Property accountability was the biggest part of the mission. Retrograding equipment and materiel. It was a non combat role.
They are scheduled to return THIS TUESDAY JANUARY 8TH, to ALBANY AIRPORT at 12:30 pm.
Some of you may remember Bill from other welcome Home events, that he has participated in, in the past.
I would like to encourage, everyone who is able to. To meet at the airport, With American Flags, and cheers of thanks. By 12:00noon. To welcome them, off the plane, and to New York. Given the weather, time of year, and the potential for accidents, use your own judgment as to mode of travel. (bike or Cage).
There will be more than 20 heroes returning on this plane. They will be going in a few different directions. and modes of travel. Hence, at this point.. No MC escort is planned. (stay tuned, this could change)
More info will be posted as it comes in
